This Conrad Maldives’ underwater hotel was designed by New Zealand-based design firm MJ Murphy Ltd, the same who designed underwater restaurant Ithaa in the Maldives. Its design is similar to that of Ithaa, with a curved acrylic dome. It is shaking up the concept of Maldivian luxury with the region’s first-ever under-water bungalow. This under-water project was announced in 2015 and over the completion it has cost around 15 million dollars to build.
The top level is spread over 550 square meters and has a sunrise-facing relaxation deck while the underwater section occupies 102 square meters with bedrooms and rest rooms. This ultra luxury submarine villa promises to offer its wealthy customers an intimate and immersive experience of one of the earth’s most breath-taking marine environments.

Guests can descend below sea level either through a spiral staircase or a lift. Under-water floor includes the bedroom, living space and a bathroom. The bathroom here under-water with see-through acrylic walls and ceiling will feel like you reached inside a fish-bowl around which the fishes and other lovely aquatic creatures will eagerly watch you and make you feel shy.

A curved acrylic dome separates the king-sized bedroom and living area from the reef nearby. It gives you 180-degree stunning view of marine and coral life via this curved dome. This hotel suite has enough nooks and crannies to sleep nine guests plus a butler’s quarters and space for a private security detail. Giving the guest the utmost privacy, the villa is far away from the rest of the resort.

Adding to your amusements, the resort’s world-renowned under-water restaurant, Ithaa, is near to your villa. Simply put, you don’t have to come out of your sub-marine life at all if you don’t want. The restaurant is built five meters below sea level. You can have your dishes inside this glassy restaurant watching the views of the vibrant coral reefs surrounding it or at the open-air Sunset Grill restaurant, built on stilts 50 meters out to the ocean.

The suite itself is set apart from the Conrad’s beach villas and overwater bungalows so that its residents don’t have to see other humans if they don’t want to. The Muraka is connected to the rest of the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island by jetty if you want to hang around with other travelers.
